Today we decided to test one of the most famous best-sellers in the world: the Flexform Groundpiece sofa. Synonymous with high quality made in Italy, how will it meet our needs?

The concept of modularity in interior design.

Let's define immediately what we are talking about. A sofa is called "modular" if it comes with a structure made up of independent elements, in particular, the seats and the backrest.

Having no constraints, the final structure will be customizable to the max, and can even be repeatedly redesigned and "remodelled" according to the needs of space, size, taste, and so on.

We have chosen to test our ideas on Flexform's Groundpiece, because it is certainly the most famous and appreciated modular sofa made in Italy in the world.

What conquers, beyond its soft lines and quality elements, is certainly the possibility to customize its layout.

Seats, backrests, solid or bookshelf-integrated armrests, tables and pouffes of different sizes. All these elements are declined and combined with dozens of different fabrics, leathers and eco-leathers.

Linear or L-shaped compositions can be created to make the most of all available space.

So here are 5 ideas from which to take inspiration for a quality modular sofa. Our example is obviously on a Groundpiece basis, but the reasoning applies to (almost) everything.

Island composition: the solution for open spaces.

When it comes to furnishing a large space, a series of different functions can be concentrated in a single design solution. We have thus created an L-shaped composition, integrating two useful bookcases inside the armrests covered in leather into the island sofa. And not only.

To give further movement, and complete the layout in functionality, we added comfortable islets in the centre of the room, half pouffe and half table - bookcase. The combination of different elements underlines and distinguishes the relaxation areas from the functional ones.
