In 2005 Antonio Citterio designed the Happy armchair for Flexform around an age-old gesture: weaving. The back is a metal frame on which a cowhide cord is hand-woven in an open pattern, much like traditional baskets and woven seats. Three years later Citterio took the same love of woven leather to a larger scale with the Cestone sofa.
The armchair lives on contrast. The frame is slim and comes in satin, chrome, burnished, black chrome, glossy anthracite or matt titanium; the seat frame is covered in cowhide or suede; the woven back lets light and views pass through. On top sit seat and back cushions in sterilized goose down certified by Assopiuma, with a crushproof insert in the seat. The cord comes in several colors, from black and tobacco to natural and chestnut, and can match the seat leather or contrast with it.
Fabric and leather covers are removable and finished with grosgrain piping, tone on tone or contrasting, chosen from the full Flexform sample board. On request you can add extra down cushions and an arm bolster held in place by a metal insert. Happy looks great next to a statement sofa, in a bedroom or in a reading nook by the window, where the woven back really comes alive in the light.
If you like the idea of stretching out, have a look at the Flexform Happy chaise longue, with the same woven back. In our showroom you can touch the leather cord and try color combinations in person: that is where the armchair really shows its character.
