A floating base that doubles as a shelf, oversized leather cushions resting on top and curves that wrap around the room. Hannes Peer's Aura brings home the spirit of 1970s conversation pits and the glamour of John Lautner's California houses. Straight, corner or curved, it is an island you compose yourself. We guarantee you the best price.
Hannes Peer, a South Tyrolean architect and designer based in Milan, introduced Aura with Baxter in 2024. His starting point was the 1970s conversation pit, the sunken lounge where people sat in a circle and talked for hours. Peer says Aura "echoes the splendour of John Lautner's Los Angeles mansions: from the Sheats-Goldstein Residence to the Garcia House," while IFDM wrote that it "echoes the bright glamour of Californian villas."
The heart of Aura is its base: slightly raised off the floor, it seems to float and doubles as a functional surface, a continuous ledge for a book, a drink or a lamp. On top rest large, soft, free-flowing seat and back cushions upholstered in leather. The bold frame comes in a polished finish or lacquered in Rhubarb, one of Baxter's signature colors for 2024.
Aura is a modular system you build like a piece of architecture: straight modules 200, 300 and 400 cm (about 78", 117" and 156") wide, corner modules, a curved element, right and left end units, plus poufs and low coffee tables in the same language. Close it into a horseshoe that invites conversation, stretch it into a long sofa facing the windows, or wrap it around a central table. Baxter calls it "an island of comfort."
Aura needs space and light: in a large living room, with a pouf and a coffee table in the middle, it becomes the place the whole house revolves around. If you fall for it, you can carry the same look into the bedroom with the Baxter Aura bed, which picks up its base and cushions. Visit our showroom to plan your layout with us: with the modules in front of you, it's much easier to picture your own.
