In recent years, growing environmental awareness has led to a significant transformation in the furniture industry. More and more companies are adopting sustainable practices, using environmentally friendly materials and responsible production processes. Among the brands that stand out in this field are Baxter, Lema, Flexform, Pedrali and Cattelan Italia, each with their own design proposals that combine aesthetics and sustainability.
Baxter has always attached great importance to the environmental impact of every stage of production, making eco-sustainability one of its core values. This focus is reflected in its voluntary adherence to the UNI EN ISO 14001 environmental certification, starting in 2005, and in the design and construction of a company headquarters according to eco-sustainable principles. In 2011, Baxter inaugurated a new headquarters, which is the first class A certified public ‘Climate House’ in Europe. This is a working environment with a low environmental impact, where natural light, exposure to the sun and the materials used contribute to a high level of comfort and a harmonious connection with the surrounding environment.
Lema is a brand known for its focus on innovative design and quality craftsmanship. One of its flagship pieces is the Soffio sofa, a perfect example of how comfort can be combined with sustainability. Made from recyclable materials and eco-friendly upholstery, the Soffio sofa not only offers an exceptional seating experience, but also helps to reduce its environmental impact. Lema is committed to using wood from sustainably managed forests, ensuring that each piece is not only beautiful, but also responsible.
Finally, Cattelan Italia's Maxim Argile table is another example of sustainable design. It derives from manual processing and a cold moulding technique, which does not involve the exploitation of energy resources. Industrialised processes only support the high craftsmanship component of the liquid cement casting and finishing stages, which are done by hand. Cattelan Italia is distinguished by the use of high quality materials and a production that cares about the well-being of the environment. Each piece is an investment in lasting beauty, without compromising our planet's resources.
Flexform is another brand that embraces sustainability, and the Tessa armchair is a clear example. This iconic piece is characterised by elegant lines and a sturdy structure made of high-quality wood. The seat and back of the armchair are made of hand-woven river straw. Flexform products are made to last. The durability of a product is a core value of environmental sustainability. What lasts a long time does not create waste and does not pollute, does not generate material to be disposed of and transported with consequent CO2 emissions.
Pedrali's Souvenir chair represents a meeting of tradition and innovation. It is a one-piece chair made from 60% recycled polypropylene derived from post-industrial material: it is a celebration of sustainable design. Its elegant and versatile shape makes it suitable for various contexts, from residential to contract. Pedrali pays particular attention to reducing environmental impact, adopting a production cycle that minimises the use of resources and promotes the recycling of materials.
In a world where sustainability has become a priority, brands such as Lema, Flexform, Pedrali and Cattelan Italia prove that it is possible to combine design and environmental responsibility. Choosing sustainably produced furniture is not only a question of aesthetics, but also of ethics, contributing to a better future for the next generations.
